Sensory Motor for 2nd & 3rd grade – Tue, Apr 2

What is the hardest part about becoming a 3rd grader? No More Sensory Motor!! They nostalgically look back at the days of zip lining, of zooming blind folded into giant balls, of the climbing wall and the chain of promise. Thanks to our very own Danielle DiSalvo, these kids have one more opportunity. Do yourself a favor and get a ticket. Your kid will love you for it – trust me. Time: 1:50-2:50pm. Price: $50 per person. 10 spots available.

Bits, Bobs & Eats – Pixie Hall Studios

Leave it to Rooftop mom and Pixie Hall Studios founder Kristin Scagliotti to design a great after school program that embraces art, introduces home skills and fosters independence and self awareness. Take a look at the activities: how to make your own herb box, garden & recipes. Bake bread and design packaging. How to iron, sew a button, set the table, dinner etiquette, make stationary. Parents….after this class your child can teach you how it’s done! Time: Wednesdays at 3:30-5:30pm from March 13. Age: 7-12

Private Rock climbing classes at Mission Cliff – Stas Yurkevich

Rooftop dad and rock climbing enthusiast will take up to two kids for two hours of climbing lessons at Mission Cliffs. And as your child connects to his/her inner Spiderman or woman, Stas will teach how to stay safe and confident. What a treat! Weekends between 9am-1pm.

Disneyland Adventure

Planning a visit to the happiest place on earth? Search no more because at the Rooftop Auction you can find great deals and support your school. Have a princess who wants to meet Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty or Snow White? Just make your way to Fantasyland and she’ll be in paradise. The only challenge will be to get that tune of “It’s a Small World” out of your head There is so much to see and do: Adventureland, Critter Country, Frontierland and of course Main Street USA. For more information see the Disneyland Park’s website. Four 1-day park hopper tickets.

50 hours of drop in at CASA

So you think Disneyland is the happiest place on earth? Try CASA! Our Rooftop kids *heart* CASA where they get to play, where they learn to dance, to sing, to perform, to make music, to express themselves and be respectful to others. And of course, parents *heart* the homework help. If your child would love to play with his friends after school and participate in all the fun activities, then you need to stay focused, guard the Super Silent section and get your name on the bid sheet. Don’t turn around, don’t walk away – or this sweet CASA deal could be gone.

JCC Super Pool Party – party for 20 people

Always dreamed of having a private pool? The Rooftop Auction is there to make your dreams come true…for a few hours anyway. Imagine a party with 19 of your best friends in the JCC’s awesome large lap pool, the warm (smaller) pool and the hot tub. Bring your own music, play your own games. You and your guests will all agree: this party rocks!

http://www.jccsf.org/the-center/pool

Family Overnight stay at R-Ranch

R-Ranch is a family resort located in the hills of Lake Berreyessa. Obviously there is much to enjoy for equestrians, but nobody will be bored here. First of all, the R Ranch has the largest swimming pool in Napa County. There’s tennis, basketball, volleyball, a trout pond and a craft center. Boating is available in Lake Berreyessa and there are plenty of wineries. After all these activities, you will rest well in your family cabin. At the end of the weekend….it’ll take you only an hour to get back home. Sweet!

Teacher & Staff Parties

Now this is where the bidding frenzy tends to get ugly. Watch the nervous parents stand guard by the gift certificates to make sure their bid is the winner. Because really, which Rooftop kid would not want to hang out with their teacher at a ball game? Or Chrissie Field? Dinner & movie? A hike? How about Principal for the Day? The creative and exciting teacher excursions are lined up and they are making us happy. Very happy! So stay focused because you don’t want to miss out on these ones.

20 document readers and digital projectors
20 classrooms
$20,000

Most of us agree that our kids receive a great education at Rooftop. The teachers and staff are highly talented and dedicated, there is a wide support system of professionals and volunteers and the PTA funds fantastic enrichment programs. But that doesn’t mean that we can lean back and bask in the glory of our success: we can always do better and raise our standards.

The Need

We asked the teachers and administrators what they need to provide a better academic experience for our kids. Their answer: We need to invest in technology to equip our students with 21st century skills. Many of our computers are on their last legs and if we wish to avoid a ‘tech crisis’ we must act soon.

The Vision

Our task is to research and explore a multi-step Technology Implementation program. Our Faculty and PTA technology teams will work side-by-side to come up with a smart plan that addresses the needs of each teacher and classroom. Developing the Technology Implementation vision will be a work in progress.

The Goal

The number one request on our teachers’ wish list are document readers & digital projectors. With this equipment, teachers and students will be able to project notes, pages, video and/or images – from ANY source – directly onto a screen to share with the entire class. It will save teachers a lot of time and work, reduce the number of copies to be made and lower copy and supply expenses. We need to purchase equiptment for 20 classrooms. We estimate that implementing this first part of the technology plan will cost approximately $1000 per classroom. The goal is to raise $20,000.

Fund a Need

If you come to the auction, you will have the opportunity to raise a paddle for the document readers and digital projectors during Live Auction. If you cannot make it to the auction, please consider donating here http://auction.rooftopk8.org/fund-a-need/. Don’t forget to ask family members and friends to make a tax deductible contribution. ‘It’s for the kids!’ Your teacher and all of our Rooftop students will love you for it.

To avoid the 2.2% surcharges and fees, donors should consider writing a check payable to Rooftop PTA for contributions greater than $100. Please send checks to

Mission District Food Tour – Avital Tours

Feeling slightly overwhelmed with the many restaurant options in ‘foodie town’ San Francisco? Leave it to Avital Ungar, local tour guide, food geek, contemporary art enthusiast to set your straight. Avital takes you behind the scenes of Mission District’s favorite eateries to meet chefs, restaurant owners and industry experts! After your visit of five restaurants (with generous tastings at each), you’ll leave the tour a veritable expert in the local scene, complete with a map of more neighborhood hotspots to try on your own and plenty of native trivia with which to impress (or annoy) your friends. Check out Avital Tours’ website.

The Good, The Bad and The Down Right Ugly

A Walking Tour of Downtown SF Architecture

A three hour walking to tour of Downtown SF architecture with Rooftop’s very own architect dads Greg Mottola and Tom Sprinkle. Let Greg and Tom school you on the finer points of SF architecture. Together our dynamic duo has TK (Tom has almost 25) years experience in the business, designing high-end buildings and retail stores from the Bay Area, to Shanghai, to Istanbul. Best of all they have A LOT of opinions about the cityscape of our beloved San Francisco. This is not a historical tour, but a survey of buildings and structures they fine the most interesting–and the most awful. After they’ve exhausted all of their knowledge, the group will relax at the TK bar near Market Street for post-tour drinks and snacks. Only eight spots available.
Date: TBA, Time:10am – 2:00pm, Price $40.00/ person – 8 tickets available

Mission Murals Tour

We are lucky to live in an amazing city that is full of culture and color and it doesn’t get much more colorful than the vibrant Mission (or for hipsters: the Mish). It is here where you can find the powerful murals of Balmy Alley; all done by passionate, talented and socially aware artists with fervor and a meaningful voice. To better understand the symbolism in some of the murals and the background of the artists, you do not want to miss this 2-hour tour with tourguide extraordinaire Anita Rao. Twenty spots available – grab one (or two or three) or the tour will leave without you!
Date: TBA, 10:30am – 12:30pm, $25.00 per person – 20 tickets available

Filoli House and Garden

Filoli is so lovely you feel like you have walked onto a movie set. Wait, you have! You’ve seen it in Joy Luck Club, The Game and it was home to Blake and Crystal Carrington in Dynasty (who could ever forget the shoulder-padded eighties?). But it is also one of the Bay Area’s best-kept secrets that you will love to explore. If you aren’t into pastoral views, walking into a time warp of wealth and beauty, art, nature, baby deer, colors, peaceful quiet and romance then this may not be your thing. But bring your mother on Mother’s Day and she’ll be forever grateful.

The Urban Safari Tour

You’ve surely seen them around town: zebra-striped vehicles, tourists with camera ready and a driver/tourguide wearing a pith helmet joyfully pointing out SF landmarks. Don’t let the exotic outfit fool you: these tours are not *just* gimmicky, in fact, these tours are highly personalized. The safari folks research what events take place just that day so that they can improvise based on your interests. Culture, Cuisine or Castro? Nopa, Soma or Fidi? No problem – hop on board. Great for savvy natives or out-of-town guests. Check out the Urban Safari’s website here: theurbansafari.com.

Our Rooftop kids are lucky: they get to create art and explore materials, texture and shapes every day at school, but us adults often do not have that time or opportunity. No prep, no clean up just making art and having fun. Location: Amy & Mukherjee’s home. Time: 2pm.
