San Francisco may not be Hollywood, but don’t make the mistake of discounting our film industry altogether. Your kids fighting droids at home with their light sabers? Or hear them yell ‘To infinity and beyoooooond’ right before leaping off the stairs? All that and more came right from the Bay Area and thanks to some some talented Rooftop parents who work in the industry, you can win tickets for a fascinating close-up of two cutting-edge animation studios.
DreamWorks Animation, Redwood City
If you live on this planet (or at least this hemisphere), you will know the name and logo of DreamWorks. Who has not seen Shrek? Kung Fu Panda, Puss in Boots, Madagascar? Can you imagine the look on your child’s face when you tell them that you won tickets to tour the place where these wonderful pictures are designed and produced? Rooftop dad Xavier will show you around the authorized areas of the studio, get a sneak peak of animation at the screening room before enjoying lunch in the company cafeteria. And to top it off, you will leave with a goodie bag with a DVD, book, etc. This will make for a very inspiring event for your family and/or friends, not to mention that you have scored some major ‘cool parent’ points. The tour is for 6 people and date to be agreed on with the winner.
Cinderbiter, San Francisco
There is a new kid on the block: Cinderbiter and it’s located right here in the Mission. Two Rooftop parents, Peter & Yoriko, are lucky to call this stop motion animation studio their place of work and better yet, they both offer a tour of the studio. You will enjoy a fascinating look into the process of producing a stop motion feature. From how the sets & puppets are created ~ to the animating & shooting of a 3D movie. Currently, Cinderbiter is producing Henry Selick’s new 3D feature for Disney. Henry’s past films include Coraline & The Nightmare before Christmas. So be sure to hover around the Cinderbiter bidsheet and win one of these two tours – you will be so happy you did. And hey, it’s in the Mission so delicious food all around to enjoy afterwards. Each tour is for maximum 4 people and will include one adult or kid-size t-shirt. Date to be agreed on with the winner.
